On February 27, the Florida Pond gathered on the banks of Lee Roy Selmon’s Westshore.  We had two dozen persons present and initiated four new Ganders.  We also received 3 other applications for membership and one other Gander who planned to join could not make the meeting.  We welcome new Ganders Anthony Brown, Linda Edwards, and Sylvia Parks, all with Travelers, and Lisa Weinstein with PMA Management.

We were honored with the visitation of Grand Guardian of the Nest Linda Meik and also visiting Gander PMLG Archie Gillis from the [Halifax] Nova Scotia Pond, who was greeted with an impromptu singing of Oh, Canada

Additionally, I would guess we had approximately $200 worth of trash bags collected for A Kid’s Place.  That ought to keep them stocked for a while.

There was an unscheduled presentation to Kevin Ormsby of a Coast Guard Veteran’s cap.  It turns out that three Coast Guard veterans were present among the two dozen persons present.  That has to be some kind of record considering the Coast Guard is only about 40,000 strong.

Our next gathering will be on the banks of O’Brien’s Irish Pub & Grill at 15435 N. Dale Mabry (on the east side just north of Ehrlich/Bearss) on March 13 at 5:30pm for a social event.  Going north, take a right onto Hoedt just past CVS and then a right into the shopping center where Hoedt makes a sharp left.  O’Brien’s is at the far end of the building on your left.

Bring your Blue Goose eligible buddies as our guests.  We’ll have a free drink and appetizers and you can order dinner off the menu.  Also, Gander Kara Benson is doing an unrelated benefit for greyhound rescue at O’Brien’s that evening, so you might want to consider a donation to her cause, although it is certainly not expected.

We plan to deliver Easter baskets to A Kid’s Place, so please consider bringing basket fillers, such as candy, to this event and our March and April regular meetings.

We have changed our regular gatherings on the banks of Lee Roy Selmon’s Westshore to the third Thursday of the month.  This will include March through May.  We do not gather in June and July when school is out and everyone’s on vacation.  So our next regular gathering will be March 20th.

Also, the Flamingo Puddle has changed their meetings to the second Thursday and have moved back to Polo Grill & Bar in Lakewood Ranch.  Go to http://flpond.homestead.com/flamingo.html for details.
